About

20260111-6

MaKenna Harmon is a Utah based photographer whose work revolves around people and their relationship with the environments that they live and recreate in, whether natural or human-made. As an outdoor recreation enthusiast herself, she captures individuals doing what they love in places that they love with people that they love.

Another theme found in her photographic work is how people impact these places and how the environment impacts both individuals and the general population. Harmon aims to use photography to help bring environmental issues to light such as consumerism, air quality, and climate change - especially related to the Great Salt Lake - to promote change for good.

She is inspired by her own experiences recreating outside and how they have shaped her as a person. Other photographers such as Irene Yee, Elliot Porter, and Reid Elem have helped to inspire her work through their outdoor work relating to experiencing, recreating in, and protecting our Earth.

I had been selling my images since I was 15. By the time I was 19 I thought I was pretty good. I got hired on a part time basis to carry stuff for a photographer. So in a sense all I was, was very cheap labor to carry stuff, my ability with a camera was incidental.
